Kabali... Rajinikanth should have acted this movie long ago.. what a performer he has emerged! The way he has emoted the character is brilliant. And may be that's why people rebutting this movie as dud, are those who have been so used to his larger than life image as portrayed by generations of directors. It sure was a huge decision to trust his stardom to a 2 film old director, but with his experience in d industry it was decision made wise.. to a play a character defining his age n charisma! And hats off to Ranjith for daring a script n directing it without the trappings of the superstardom Rajni has had to shoulder over the decades!
This movie needs to watched n appreciated for its nuances n niche film making. To walk in thinking it is another run on d mill Rajinikanth movie with punch dialogues n time tested elements, rather don't watch it at all, n don't criticize it either! And for all those who are cribbing about ticket cost gone down d dump watching it, it was solely ur call, no one compelled u!
I truly believe it is a beautiful movie, with the film gradually building a momentum unfolding the layers of the lead character... Kabaleeshwaran. The slow paced narrative adds strength to d realistic feel of the movie because u don't expect a guy at 65 to do things like a 20 year old. The sequence is where he meets his daughter n wife ll remain as one most defining n well etched moment in film making. Maya Nadhi song is delicately shot, that it ll sure evoke an emotion towards ur true love, irrespective of age. It is totally a classic to Rajni ooze with n express love n longing at the age he plays.. and the words "Maya Nadhi ondru nenjil vazhiyuthae, Thooya narailiyum Kaadhal vazhiyuthae" says it all.
Watch it for d love of Rajinikanth, and the greatest tribute and respect to him is to appreciate him as an actor, n not his stardom. It's time we bid adieu to d 5 song, 4 fight, CG/ EFX as a routine n embrace and appreciate good movies.
There are elements that are a treat to fan in us too. So go watch the movie and savor it. Kabali.. the GENRE is GOOD MOVIE.

Very Good Anand. Only some complaints from me.
ReplyDelete1. The supporting cast including the villain were not up to par
2. Could have explained the Tamil/Malaysia situation better
3. The last gun fight was not realistic compared to the rest of the movie.
Also, I saw the movie online. Maybe, i have no right to complain :-)
Yes Shankar, the villains could ve been more defining in their roles. And the last gun fight was so clichéd, a repetition!
