Dr. APJ Abdul Kamal - A Legend whose legacy lives

97th National Science Congress... the event is still fresh in my memory! It was in January 2007 at Chidambaram, Annamalai University and I was part of the organising team, in charge of Children's Science Exhibition. Scientists, Delegates, teachers, students from India and all over the world were thronging Chidambaram, and not with out a reason! Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Hon'ble President of India was the Chief Guest and was delivering an impromptu talk and interacting with the students.
It was a mad house... the entire government and administrative brass was in full swing, checking and rechecking every facet of the arrangements. Security checks, bomb disposal squads, sniffer dogs, black cat commandos (Z+ security) and the uncontrollable crowd for the love of this man.
And when the moment arrived, the presidential motor cade and with motor bike outriders, His Excellency arrived and the crowd went frenzy. He was the "Kabali" of the student world, and to see the man in such closeness and proximity and hear him was pure exhilaration.
Dr APJ Kalam, was an embodiment of simplicity and virtues of the highest order. He believed the younger generation and the student community were the detrimental keys for India to emerge a world superpower. His thoughts, words and speeches have kindled the collective spirit of the nations' youth and his departure has not done him apart. He was, is and will always be living legacy and no leader will ever be able ignite such passion and patriotism. THE NATION WILL ALWAYS REMEMBER YOU SIR... Jai Hind
